Democracy Reigns Victorious in Sony/Helldivers dispute

Image
It would seem that the Helldivers community is not only skilled at coordinated assaults on the Galactic Front but it would also appear their skill on the Internet Front is nothing to be sneezed at. We've already covered the controversy in another post so we'll keep it short and sweet. Sony has been trying to enforce PSN accounts on Steam players which resulted in some backlash from the community as many Steam Helldivers live in countries where the only way to have a PSN would be using a VPN, a direct violation of Sony's own Terms of Service. Thankfully late last night PlayStation announced that they were walking back the decision to enforce PSN accounts on Steam players. Screenshot from Twitter/X This can be seen as a big win not only for Helldivers but for the gaming community as a whole. Sony, like most other corporations, often does things for the sake of investors and for a very long time the gaming community has let these things go. The results of that have been less t...

The Return of MultiVersus and their terrible Marketing

Image
MultiVersus is finally coming back on May 28th. While the game is certainly interesting as a Warner Brothers property mash up in the form of a platform fighter, the marketing for the game leaves a lot to be desired. If you've never heard of MultiVersus I can't say I blame you since unlike anything else WB refuses to let people know this game even exists.  What is MultiVersus? Let's start with this question since it's probably the biggest one everyone has. Basically imagine if Super Smash Bros got invaded by the Looney Tunes and other WB properties. While the gameplay is a bit different, opting for a focus on 2v2 at least currently, the general idea is still the same. You'll choose from a roster of very recognizable faces, including Batman, Superman, Jake the Dog, Bugs Bunny and Iron Giant, to fight against other players either casually or competitively. Players will also unlock perks that they can use to change up how character abilities work or change the playstyle...

Helldivers 2 Just took a dive thanks to Sony

Image
Helldivers 2 is probably the most successful game this year in terms of player numbers but thanks to Sony things are looking grim. If you aren't caught up on all the juicy details let me try to break it down for you.  Basically Sony has chosen to start enforcing PSN account requirements on players who own the game through Steam. Some people see this as a non-issue but clearly the community vehemently disagrees as reviews on Steam went from Overwhelmingly Positive to Mixed in just a handful of days.  Screenshot from Steam reviews Thanks to this handy Steam review graph its pretty obvious to see that over the last 3 days people have been pretty upset about this. Recent reviews are now sitting at Overwhelmingly negative but that's not all Steam is issuing refunds regardless of time played and has stopped selling the product in several countries that do not support PSN. While this may seem like a positive development the issue is that most players do not want to refund or give up ...
