The Return of MultiVersus and their terrible Marketing
MultiVersus is finally coming back on May 28th. While the game is certainly interesting as a Warner Brothers property mash up in the form of a platform fighter, the marketing for the game leaves a lot to be desired. If you've never heard of MultiVersus I can't say I blame you since unlike anything else WB refuses to let people know this game even exists. What is MultiVersus?
Let's start with this question since it's probably the biggest one everyone has. Basically imagine if Super Smash Bros got invaded by the Looney Tunes and other WB properties. While the gameplay is a bit different, opting for a focus on 2v2 at least currently, the general idea is still the same. You'll choose from a roster of very recognizable faces, including Batman, Superman, Jake the Dog, Bugs Bunny and Iron Giant, to fight against other players either casually or competitively. Players will also unlock perks that they can use to change up how character abilities work or change the playstyle of that character but according to the developers themselves in a recent Q and A session perks have been changed quite a bit.
Any info at All?
Speaking of the Q and A it was surprisingly insightful into just how little we really know about a game coming out later this month. While we do have some information about the game, such as being updated to Unreal Engine 5 and the larger character models, there is still a lot we simply aren't sure of like what new characters we'll be getting ... if any. Although during the Q and A the developers seemed to hint at some new characters coming along but as for official news there currently is none. A few questions revolved around the new parry mechanic being added that was discussed during the Combat Refactor Dev Blog. While the information given was certainly appreciated many players are hoping for more.
Is Marketing Hard?
Well in short yes marketing can be very difficult and it's even more difficult given MultiVersus's track record. Going from an Open Beta with extreme netcode issues and less than stellar battle passes to shutting down for a year it seems like a pretty monumental task for anyone to tackle. That being said it seems less and less likely that they'll attempt to tackle at all until the week of release. Information has been sparse at best but things have picked up with the dev blog and Q and A so hopefully in the coming weeks we'll hear about some new characters or this new perk system but as for now that seems like nothing more than a distant dream.
