Democracy Reigns Victorious in Sony/Helldivers dispute

It would seem that the Helldivers community is not only skilled at coordinated assaults on the Galactic Front but it would also appear their skill on the Internet Front is nothing to be sneezed at. We've already covered the controversy in another post so we'll keep it short and sweet. Sony has been trying to enforce PSN accounts on Steam players which resulted in some backlash from the community as many Steam Helldivers live in countries where the only way to have a PSN would be using a VPN, a direct violation of Sony's own Terms of Service. Thankfully late last night PlayStation announced that they were walking back the decision to enforce PSN accounts on Steam players.

This can be seen as a big win not only for Helldivers but for the gaming community as a whole. Sony, like most other corporations, often does things for the sake of investors and for a very long time the gaming community has let these things go. The results of that have been less than stellar and should be fairly obvious given recent games in the last few years. While Helldivers might have freed themselves from the oppression of undemocratic corporations my hope is that things like this continue to happen as gamers have been underfoot of the shareholders and CEOs for too long.

Reviews are already turning around thanks to turn of events and things are looking much better for Helldivers future. If you've left a poor review in the wake of Sony's idiocy I do suggest you change it so the game doesn't suffer the ill effects of having crazy bad ratings. Nothing can stop managed democracy like this so hopefully in the future no one forgets that we, the gamers, have the ability to influence these kinds of decisions and making our voices heard is not only a wonderful benefit in some cases it is a requirement. Here's hoping nothing else this insane happens again to Helldivers but even if it does nothing will stop the people from trying to change things, not bots, bugs, or corporate overlords.
